Once you have made the decision that adoption is your best option for starting or enriching your family, you will face the often daunting task of choosing an adoption program and an agency. Note that the basic procedure is similar in most adoption situations involving a licensed, non-profit adoption agency.
Selecting an agency is a very important job. As you start on the road to parenthood, you want your agency to be by your side, every step of the way. Hawaii International Child has been there, every step of the way, for thousands of adoptive families. HIC does not operate any international program it has not created and set up. We don’t offer our programs for use to other agencies, and we don’t charge you a middleman fee for piggybacking on other agencies’ programs. If we don’t offer what you need, we’ll happily refer you elsewhere. If we say we have a program in Timbuktu, then we’ve taken that long dusty road ourselves and we’ve been there.
Founded in 1975, HIC has a solid history of creating families, by helping and placing children and by providing excellent service to our clients. Thirty years of operation has given us a good track record to practice what we preach. Our commitment to serving you and your child is our mission. We live and breathe our work, and are passionate about adoption as a wonderful way to build a family.
In order to best serve you, HIC has retained a small, family atmosphere. Our staff meets weekly to discuss all active cases, and to discuss how to best serve each client. When you call us, you will almost always reach a human being during business hours. After hours you have our cell phone numbers. We will do our best to always get back to you within 24 hours. We understand that once you commit to adoption, you want your adoption agency to feel that same commitment to you. And we do.
Being small does not mean we compromise on professionalism. At HIC we believe in aiming high, and we follow the standards set by some of the best human service organizations. Our commitment to the highest professional standards includes our membership in the Joint Council on International Children’s Services (JCICS) since 1994. HIC completed a national accreditation process through the Council on Accreditation (COA) in 2004. HIC is a member in good standing of the Better Business Bureau, as well as many other important standard-bearing organizations.
If you are considering adoption, why not give us a call? We’ll be happy to do whatever we can to give you the information you need to start your adoption journey. If you’re still hesitant about making that first call, here’s one more fact you should know, 75 percent of our clients are referred to us by friends who have used HIC services in the past. Each year we also help clients who return to us for a second or third adoption. Give us a call or send us an email and become part of our ‘Ohana.
Hawaii International Child shall make available the following documents upon request: Conflict of Interest policy; Articles of Incorporation; Bylaws; and Audited Financial Statement.
